After breakfast, we will visit the Ho Chi Minh complex, including Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, and his private residence from 1954 to 1969. The ethnic-style wooden house, built on stilts, is surrounded by beautiful, tranquil gardens. In the same complex, you will also see the One-Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049. This structure has become an important symbol for the people of Hanoi. We continue the tour to Tran Quoc Pagoda, located on a small peninsula on the eastern side of beautiful West Lake. This is Hanoi’s oldest pagoda, with a history spanning over 1,500 years.
In the afternoon, we visit the Hoa Lo Prison Museum, originally used to hold political prisoners. The Americans called it the “Hanoi Hilton” during the Second Indochina War. Here, we see original cells with leg irons and displays illustrating prison life during the French colonial period. Afterwards, we visit Train Street—a narrow street hidden in one of Hanoi’s back streets, lined with tall, narrow houses built close together. The train tracks literally run through the backyards of these families, and the train passes here several times a day.
We’ll also visit the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake and take a leisurely stroll through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, a fascinating network of narrow alleyways and shops known as “The 36 Streets”—each named after the goods traditionally sold there, from fabrics to medicines and crafts.
